Passed in the House (63 to 46) on March 25, 2010, to repeal the mandatory motorcycle helmet requirement for riders age 21 and above who carry extra insurance covering the costs of a rider's injuries. [History, Amendments & Comments]

IIntroduced by Sen. Alan L. Cropsey on March 10, 2005 , to repeal the mandatory motorcycle helmet requirement for persons at least 21 years old who have held a motorcycle license for two years and successfully completed a motorcycle safety course.

Referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee on March 10, 2005 .
Reported in the Senate on March 16, 2005 , with the recommendation that the substitute (S-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.

Substitute offered in the Senate on March 17, 2005 , that requires a helmet less motorcycle operator to have $10,000 in personal injury insurance protection. The substitute passed in the Senate by voice vote on March 17, 2005 .
Amendment offered by Sen. Tom George and Sen. Beverly Hammerstrom on March 17, 2005, to require a helmet less motorcycle operator to have $100,000 in personal injury insurance protection. The amendment failed in the Senate (16 to 18) on March 17, 2005 .  

Amendment offered by Sen. Tom George and Sen. Beverly Hammerstrom on March 17, 2005 , to sunset the helmet exemption proposed by the bill in three years, and in the meantime to require a study be done of the effects of the exemption on motorcycle injury rates and seriousness. The amendment failed in the Senate by voice vote on March 17, 2005 .
